February 4 (Rosa Parks‘s birthday) is Transit Equity Day. Transit Equity Day is an opportunity to reflect on the needs of our transportation system and take action for safe, convenient, dignifying, and equitable bus rides for all. One way to do this is to ensure bus riders have a safe and comfortable place to wait.
For Transit Equity Day 2026, we partnered with Central Indiana Cycling and Anderson York to distribute bus stop benches and bench building kits.
All proceeds from benches went to the Central Indiana Cycling Transit Advocacy Committee, thanks to the generosity of Indy Bench Mench. With community support, we got 12 new benches out to bus stops that previously had no available seating!
